I LOVE A PARADE

The gays are going to have a parade. The Gay Pride Parade. In Jerusalem. On Friday.

My question is...AND WHY NOT?

Don't get me wrong...I am not gay...and although I read Tehilim every day and keep a kosher home, I am far from being religious. So, it's easy for me to take sides.

My side is in the corner of 'freedom of speech'. You don't like the parade? Stay home!

This is a country where Arabs are members of the Knesset. Where all kinds of people march and demonstrate. Peace Now, the far left, the far right, and anyone and everyone in between.

I have never heard of a gay person killing a straight person because he didn't like his/her sexual preferences. I have never heard of a gay person asking for anything other than to be treated as an equal in his/her country of choice. And the truth is, that all the gay people I know are not only lovely people but I am proud to call them friend.

I wasn't going to get involved in this online. My feelings don't necessary have to be aired in public. But as it stands, some people are going to get hurt, and G-d forbid maybe seriously injured because other people don't approve of their sex lives!

Is that nuts or what?

Oh, I get it. You can hurt and maime and maybe even kill anyone who is different as long as you have a reason. Is that it?

You can kill Jews because...well we all know that story by heart.
And the Muslims are threatening the free world because...I know, I know, the infidal thing.

The year was 1977. The place was a Chicago suburb of Skokie. One out of every six Jewish citizens was a survivor, or directly realted to a survivor of the Holocaust. And that is where the neo-Nazis decided to hold their parade.

It's called 'FREEDOM OF SPEECH'...and once you take away a person's freedom of expression the entire world will suffer.

Did I want those neo-Nazi bastards to march? Never. I don't even want them to exist.
Do I like it when the other political side goes out and holds a rally spewing their agenda? Never.

But, I am thrilled that I live in a country where it is ok to do so.

You don't want to see the gay parade? Fine. As I said, stay home. But G-d forbid, any of us have the power to say what freedom is. One for all and all for one and the whole place benefits.

All pigs are equal, except some pigs are more equal than others? Never. Some are simply pigs.

I hope and pray that Friday's parade begins and ends without one person being hurt...for all of our sakes.

I don't know if I would have the guts to march and take my chances. The person who throws that stone is not brave. He's a coward and a bully. And should be ashamed of himself.

Oh, God...sometimes I wonder why You made religious leaders and let's throw in a couple of government guys too. Not a good example for my children and grandchildren. Hey, maybe the straights should have a parade and all of us who have a complaint can holler stuff at them as they march. Sticks and stones et al.

Have a good day...stay safe...and thanks for dropping in.

Freedom of Speech ? Right you are !

How about Maslow's "Hierarchy of Needs" Theory ? Applicable to every human being on the face of this planet.

So very, very simple when you realize that we are all aboard the same ship of life, and that we all need the same type of life-jacket !

If a gay man becomes impotent or a gay man or woman loses his/her sex drive completely, as it happens with men and women everywhere, are they still gay? But of course! Being gay is not just about what goes on between the legs; it's what goes on betwwen the ears. Being gay, like any minority, is about the culture, the music, the art, the literature, the heroes, the sense of humor and more.

It is also the only minority that occurs in every culture, creed, socio-economic, political, geographical and religious group throughout the world.

Those who say and think that being gay is about sex only is like saying being American is about baseball only or being Black is about rap only.
Being gay (or fill in the blank with any minority) is always about so much more than 1 thing

BUT the saddest and singular characteristic about being gay is that unlike any other minority, the hatred and bigotry most often starts from and is perpetuated in the home.
The suicide rate of gat teens is 3 times highre than non-gay teens and it is not because they are gay that the kill themselves; it is becauae of the hatred and isol;ation and shame inflicted on them by their 'God-loving' family.
How sad we choose to hate those children God created the way HE/SHE created them If being gay is a choice, and only stright people say it is, then being hetrosexual must be a choice too. And who in God's name would choose to be gay?

Thanks for asking, Yehupitz. Maslow has EVERYTHING to do with it.

Maslow's Theory contends that as humans meet their "basic needs", they seek to satisfy successively "higher needs"

That's EVERYONE, Yehupitz. Doesn't matter if one is green, or 9 feet tall , or a bald hermaphrodite with flat feet. In order to be the best person that one can be, all one's needs must be met.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is often depicted as a pyramid consisting of five levels.

At the broad base: PHYSIOLOGICAL
[ breathing, food, water, sex, sleep, excretion ]

Next level up : SAFETY
[ Security of: body, employment, resources, morality, family, health, and property.]

Next level: LOVE
[ friendship, family, sexual intimacy ]

Fourth level: ESTEEM
[ self-esteem, confidence, achievement, respect of others, respect by others ]

Fifth level: SELF-ACTUALIZATION
[ morality, creativity, spontaneity, problem solving, lack of prejudice, acceptance of facts ]

At the top of the triangle, SELF-TRANSCENDENCE is also sometimes referred to as spiritual need.

The Hierarchy of Needs concept is that the higher needs only come into focus once all the needs that are lower in the pyramid are mainly or entirely satisfied.

And, to reiterate, Yehupitz, THESE NEEDS APPLY TO ALL HUMANKIND. EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO BE THE BEST THAT THEY CAN BE.

Seems to me, if EVERYONE was busy making damn sure that his/her OWN pyramid was successfully constructed, he/she would have precious little time to grant others their building permits !

Guv dahling,

I know what the Hierarchy of Needs is. My question was: According to you, what does it have to do with Freedom of speech or the Pride Parade? I have a hunch, but I don't want to respond to what I imagine you mean. I would rather respond to what you mean.

Did Yehupitz know what he was 'in for' when asking a question of the guv???? :))---Seeking an answer, searching for information or looking for clearer understanding is but a simple, intelligent move to speak up. But I don't believe Maslow's Theory was presented in any better detail by Maslow himself.:))
Gee, guv, was I surprised you answered the question???--NAH
---loved this whole blog; prayers for a peaceful statement in tomorrow's march

REMEMBER SODOM & GOMORRAH???

Is there REALLY a G-d??? What does He say about it? "Therefore G-d gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity that their bodies might be dishonored among them. FOR THEY EXCHANGED THE TRUTH OF G-D FOR A LIE...FOR THIS REASON G-D GAVE THEM OVER TO DEGRADING PASSIONS FOR THEIR WOMEN EXCHANGED THE NATURAL FUNCTION FOR THAT WHICH IS UNNATURAL AND IN THE SAME WAY ALSO THE MEN ABONDONED THE NATURAL FUNCTION OF THE WOMAN AND BURNED IN THEIR DESIRE TOWARD ONE ANOTHER, MEN WITH MEN, COMMITTING INDECENT ACTS AND RECEIVING IN THEIR OWN PERSONS THE DUE PENALITY OF THERE ERROR".
Not my words, but G-d's.

Unfortunately, secular humanism has replaced G-d with the god of intellectualism which says that G-d is wrong and homosexuality is okay, even when G-d says this act is "AN ABOMINATION" to Him.

G-d also says to hate the sin but love the sinner. There is no violence or hatred in that statement. He also says "the fear of the L-rd is the beginning of righteousness". Do we REALlY fear the L-rd (meaning reverencing and honoring Him) with our words, our lives, our bodies, our hearts and our minds?

G-d does not lie. He said He created man in His own image. Is G-d homosexual? If so, why would He say it is an abomination to Him? Would a loving G-d create someone to be homosexual, and then call it a sin? NOT! G-d is not double-minded and He does not play mean tricks with peoples lives. That would not be a loving G-d. G-d gives man a free will to choose. Righteousness is a choice just as sin is a choice.

(G-d also says a minister will be judged by a higher standard. He said "those who have once been enlightened and known the truth by the Holy Spirit, and then turned away from it, will be turned over to reprobate minds". I would not want to be standing in the ex-communicated, Reverends shoes on Judgement Day).

Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to exercise my freedom of speech to explain why this life-style and this parade are not acceptable, religious or not. Jerusalem is G-d's HOLY city. Clearly, this parade will defile G-d's HOLY city and bring a curse with it. I think Jerusalem has enough problems with the Palestinian situation without adding this paticular one to it.

hi chavah...thanks for writing...and of course i will publish anything and everything you have to say...it isn't often that we disagree but we can...and that's all right too...there are many abominations in the bible...the pride parade will not cause jerusalem to be cursed...G-d loves all His creatures...and He made some gay and some straight and we are all part of the tapestry of humanity...the Devil made terrorists and suicide bombers...and they are killing the gay/straight/jewish/christian/
muslim people of the world...ok said enough...have a great day my dear friend...stay safe ps as to the minister/rabbi being judged by a higher standard...well we all know how they have fallen from grace...they in my opinion are the abomination

Yehupitz, Sweetums !

If you're intelligent enough to have heard of Maslow's theory, then you are certainly clever enough to understand my comment's simply meaning.

From the time we draw in our first breath, until the time our last breath is expelled, we ALL have the same needs that have to be met in order for us to thrive. [ I used Maslow to explain life's common denominators, rather than making a generalized statement that could be sloughed off .]

In this specific case, while the middle scenes may be very different, NO MATTER WHAT, the opening and closing curtains , for both homophiles and gays alike, will function the same way. In between, EVERY PLAYER is entitled to play his/her part to the best of his/her ability. Heckling and deliberate missed-cues, while they may be tolerated, are a complete waste of time and energy ! The show will go on, regardless.

Wow Guv! I gotta hand it to you: I'm more confused after your explanation than I was before it. Are you speaking of the needs of the people marching in the parade? That we should respect their proclivities and consider them to be invioable needs of love and esteem? That's what I thought you meant, but your response doesn't say that. If that's what you meant, let me know and I'll try to reply.

Marilyn,

Tell me: Is 'i wonder who that masked man is?' the Polish way of saying the English phrase, "Who was that masked man?" ;-)

There are plenty of ultra-religious Jews in NYC, and you can bet there is a gay pride parade there. Do they dare make a peep about it, let alone riot?
No! But in Israel, they think they can get away with it.
They would be happy to throw away the country's laws and set up a Taliban-style theocracy.
