WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH

I collect sayings. Do you?

Take for instance one of my favourites: 'They also serve who only stand and wait.' John Milton, On His Blindness.

The first time I read that, I said, 'Whoa, I can do that!' Because, see, sometimes I don't have the courage to do more than stand and wait. Then, over the years I learned that sometimes just standing is very courageous.

'Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail'
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

And I moved far away from family and friends and came to a place where nobody knew my name.

'You don't get harmony when everyone sings the same note.'

'A camel is a horse that was designed by a committee.'

'Raising children is like chewing on a stone.'

'Make it happen.'

And, 'When the going gets tough, the tough get going.'

Now, I'm sure that there are a zillion other quotes that are much more profound and I'll snap my fingers and say, 'Why didn't I think of that? (Treppenwitz :) ) But for now that's what comes to mind.

Shabbat is almost here. Dontcha just love shabbat? Our menu for this weekend is: roast chicken and broiled vegetables and moussaka with rice and salad. A nice combination of Ashkenazi and Spharadi.

Sometimes that's like mixing oil and water and other times it's like fitting a hand into a soft leather glove.

Shabbat shalom.

Have a great day...stay safe...and thanks for dropping in.

So happy to hear that the advice you gleaned over the years worked for you !

My grandmother a.h. used to say, " It's easier to slide on grease than it is on gravel". But, I dunno.

Before I moved into a condo, my house in the suburbs had a huge driveway. Great place for my two youngsters, and their friends, to play on as they grew up. O.K., so I avoided lots of skinned knees. But, over the years, have you ANY idea how much it cost to lubricate that area ? And, then there were those careless, awkward visitors to our property.................. Trust me, gravel would have been MUCH cheaper !

Funny, my Nanny Sue was usually such a bright woman !!!

For now, I'm into escapism.
My contribution: "When the going gets tough the tough go shopping.":))
After the dust settles I'll try to get my intellect back in working order and may have something more in the way of wisdom to work with.

Um... I just want to let you know that I won't be making it for Shabbat dinner. The weather is bad, and the traffic is worse!

And, since I know how well you cook, I will need to replace my keyboard - 'cuz I drooled all over it!

My Mum says that.."You have more..whatever..than Carter has pills!" I thought it was something about Jimmy Carter, but wasn't he a peanut farmer? I don't get it.
